Year 2012

Become one of this year's success stories

Year 2011

This 5th anniversary edition of Le Spotlight is back again at the Gesù, where a new format is introduced.  In addition to the traditional solo performances, a group number is now a required element.  The 2011 winner is 18-year-old Eva Petris, with Sophie Protopoulos winning the Public’s Choice for her riveting portrayal of Queenie in Lippa’s “The Wild Party”.

Year 2010

The Centaur Theatre is the site of contestant Tina Mancini’s spectacular Le Spotlight win.  Audiences are treated to an inspired performance about an outraged princess whose only dream is to sing.  Maggie Owen is the Public’s Choice, receiving laughter and applause for her uniquely exuberant parody of Jeanette Macdonald in “Nelson”.

Year 2009

Le Spotlight returns to the Gesù, where special guest artist Robert Marien (of Les Misérables fame) brings a special medley of classic Broadway tunes, including Sondheim’s “Being Alive”.  For the first time, a Public’s Choice Award is instituted.  This year, Braulio Elicer is the winner in the eyes of the panel of professional judges as well as the public.

Year 2008

Le Spotlight moves to the Gesù – Centre de créativité in the heart of Montreal’s downtown core.  Wonderful guest stars lend their vocal talents to a line-up of finalists, each contributing an original and inspired performance.  Top honours go to Gaël O’Shaughnessy, beehive and all, for her comic homage to the 1960’s style of musical theatre.

Year 2007

The first Le Spotlight is held at Calixa-Lavallée in Lafontaine Park on a hot Monday night. However, it was the heat generated by our finalists’ vivid, passionate performances that was most memorable.  Winner Gabrielle Maes incorporated grapefruit as part of her performance and everybody went home wearing a smile.
